This year’s Annual General Meeting took place at the Museum on Saturday 20th June 2010 and some 30 members were present.

Chairman Dr Simon Bryant welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Officer’s reports were presented to the meeting. S C Allsop in his locomotive report described dramatic progress with the overhaul of Coal Tank locomotive no. 1054 and it is likely the work will be complete by the autumn of 2011. The Chairman said he was pleased to report that over £92,000 was now in the Appeal Fund for the restoration of No. 45596 and requested the help of the membership in raising the balance, approximately £200,000 both by continuing regular contributions and by suggesting new ideas for fund raising.

Dr Bryant announced that after 36 years as Chairman he was now retiring from this position but would remain on the Committee. Secretary John Tait proposed a vote of thanks for the Chairman’s long years of service. It was announced the Committee member Mark Winderbank would be the new Chairman.

After the meeting, members joined the members of the Vintage Carriages Trust at their Chairman’s Day buffet  lunch and afterwards members of the Trust and the Society enjoyed two round trips on the Worth Valley in vintage carriages hauled by out recently overhauled locomotive Nunlow.

Sunday 28th February 2010

The Society held an Open Day at the museum on 28th February to celebrate our recent achievement in being awarded Museum Accreditation. Chairman Dr Simon Bryant welcomed guests who included the Mayor of Keighley, Mrs Margaret Ward, her husband and several town councillors. Mrs Ward spent 1½ hours touring the Museum and seeing restoration work on the LNWR Coal Tank locomotive built in 1888. The highlight of the visit was the privilege of a footplate ride on locomotive Nunlow which had been specially steamed for the occasion.

Ingrow Loco Museum gains national quality standard

Ingrow Loco Museum at Ingrow near Keighley has just been officially ‘Accredited’ by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

The museum maintains a fascinating collection of locomotives and railway items and is supported by the locomotive workshops operated by members of the Bahamas Locomotive Society.

It is housed in a historic railway warehouse at Ingrow which is situated on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. It is not the biggest museum in Yorkshire but certainly one of the best.

The MLA's Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. Ingrow Loco's award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its collection and the services it provides its visitors.

Simon Bryant, Chairman of the Bahamas Locomotive Society, said "We maintain a very interesting collection and aim to provide a high standard of visitor facilities. It is gratifying that our members' efforts have been successful and are appreciated."

Andrew Motion, Chair MLA, said "Being awarded accreditation is an impressive achievement.  It recognises the high standard and service that Ingrow Loco Museum provides and acknowledges the hard work of its staff.
